{"id":97,"date":"2018-08-13T16:34:59","date_gmt":"2018-08-13T21:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.middleclasspoor.com\/?p=97"},"modified":"2018-08-13T16:34:59","modified_gmt":"2018-08-13T21:34:59","slug":"so-about-that-buffalo-herd-called-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.middleclasspoor.com\/?p=97","title":{"rendered":"So, about that buffalo herd called life&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again I find myself apologizing for going so long between posts.\u00c2\u00a0 I keep wanting to devote time to this blog, but life keeps getting in the way.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest life change is my father passed away.\u00c2\u00a0 Rather than go into a litany of his virtues and foibles, I&#8217;d like to remember him here for his funeral.\u00c2\u00a0 My father was ill for a long time, and had the chance to think about what he wanted his funeral to be like.\u00c2\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t mean what kind of coffin or the other things people mean when they talk about pre-planning.\u00c2\u00a0 I mean the emotion in the room.<\/p>\n<p>Dad chose the hymns, including one that Mother But-Honest hates.\u00c2\u00a0 He chose the prayers, and the readings, and the persons to read them.\u00c2\u00a0 The eulogy was given by a former pastor of our church known for his humor and kind nature.\u00c2\u00a0 He even gave us the chance to hear Amazing Grace played on a banjo.\u00c2\u00a0 My father wanted his funeral to be a celebration of not only his life, but his passing from the material realm to that of spiritual grace.\u00c2\u00a0 There were tears, yes, but there was also laughter.\u00c2\u00a0 It made remembering him bring smiles.<\/p>\n<p>Will we miss him?\u00c2\u00a0 You bet we will.\u00c2\u00a0 But his thoughtfulness made saying goodbye a lot less painful.\u00c2\u00a0 Thanks, Dad.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once again I find myself apologizing for going so long between posts.\u00c2\u00a0 I keep wanting to devote time to this blog, but life keeps getting in the way.
